Causes of Cracked Feet
The cracks or fissures that appear are usually caused by dry skin. The thickened dry skin (callus) around the heel crack because of increased pressures on that area.
Contributing factors include:
- Dry skin
- Prolonged standing or walking barefoot especially on hard floors
- Wearing thin-soled or open-backed shoes spread the fat beneath the heel. If the skin is not supple, cracks may form.
- Certain skin conditions such as eczema and psoriases
- Obesity, causing excess pressure on the feet
- Inactive sweat glands.
