| | 4 / 7 Breastfeeding position:
Football hold
Also known as the clutch hold, you tuck your baby -- like a football -- under your arm on the same side you're nursing from.
How-to: Position your baby at your side, under your arm.
Hold your baby at your side, with your elbow bent. She should be facing your breast, with her feet pointing toward your back. Support your baby's head, neck and shoulders with an open hand. Her back should rest on your forearm. Using a C-shaped hold with your other hand, guide her to your nipple, chin first.
Best for: Moms recovering from a C-section, or if you have large breasts, or you're nursing twins at the same time. This position allows you to control the baby's head and ensures good positioning to latch on.
