| | 3 / 7 Make it healthier: Lean meat
When it comes to meat, you can get the protein you need with far less fat by opting for leaner cuts. For beef, tenderloin, top loin, sirloin, top round, eye of round, tip or flank steak fit the bill. For pork, look for tenderloin, sirloin, rib chops, or lean boneless ham while for lamb, choose whole leg, loin chop, blade chops, foreshank or sirloin roast.
Poultry make healthy protein sources, too, as long as you trim away the fats by removing the skin.
Fish is also a good choice of protein. Most are low in fat, but even the fattier fish -- such as salmon -- is healthy because they contain the omega-3 fatty acid, which is good for the heart.
