Don't be afraid to ask how a particular dish is prepared and request for healthier ways of cooking -- for example, baking chicken instead of frying. Also, "ask for all dressings, gravies, sauces, butter, sour cream, or any other optional toppings on the side," says McQuillan, and use it as a dipping sauce instead -- you'll still get to enjoy the flavor without too much guilt.
