2. Smoking out of habit

Do you feel very comfortable with a cigarette in your hand or find yourself lighting up without realizing it? Do you enjoy smoking after a meal, during your break or with your cup of coffee at the cafe? If you have set up links between your daily activities and smoking, you're smoking out of habit.

Habits are formed over time when you do an activity often enough, and if you have already smoked for many years, the habits can become strongly ingrained in your life.

Quit Plan: The key is to break up your patterns and habits by changing your daily routine. For example, if you always light up when you're having your morning coffee, switch to a glass of orange juice instead. Keep track of your smoking patterns throughout the day and be aware of every cigarette you smoke. Doing other things that require you to use your hands and snacking on fruits and other healthy foods will help keep your mind off the cravings.
