| | 5 / 11 5. IUDs don't cause infertility and pelvic infections
The IUD got a bad rap in the 70s, when a model that was on the market called the Dalkon Shield was found to increase the risk of uterine-pelvic infection due to its thicker string design which could introduce an infection into the uterus. Good news is, there has been a lot of research conducted in the last 40 years, which has shown that today's IUDs are completely safe, whether or not you have had children.
