Smoothies should be an easy way to notch up your five-a-day. In reality, they are not always as wholesome as you might think. "Smoothies should only contain a few ingredients -- milk, ice, fruit and not much else," says Palinksi. Unfortunately, shop-bought smoothies often include a lot of other not-so-healthy extras, such as added sugars, heavy cream, syrups and even artificial colors. The solution: Make your own at home, advises Dudash. That way, you'll have control over the ingredients.
