"There is good evidence linking the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages to obesity and chronic disease," says Croft-o'Halloran. On top of this, there is no health or nutritional benefits from consuming a lot of fizzy drinks and you're much better off getting your daily fluid intake from other sources such as water, milk, fresh juices and teas.
