Symptoms vary from individual to individual. Some may experience constipation, others diarrhoea, and still others suffer from alternating constipation-diarrhoea episodes.
Generally, the main symptoms of IBS are:
- Stomach cramps
- Painful diarrhoea or constipation or both
- Bloating or swollen abdomen
- Mucus in the stool
- Feeling that one has not finished a bowel movement
If you or your doctor suspects that you have IBS, he may perform other medical tests to eliminate other diseases that may produce similar symptoms.
