Mild hemorrhoids can be relieved with these self-care methods:
- Gently pushing a prolapsed hemorrhoid back into the anus.
- Sit in tub baths filled with plain, warm water for approximately 15 minutes each time.
- Apply a hemorroidal cream to the affected area.
Treating Hemorrhoids
For more serious hemorrhoids, surgery may be required to shrink and destroy the hemorrhoidal tissue. A number of techniques are available:
- Hemorrhoidectomy. The hemorrhoid is cut and removed during this surgical operation.
- Rubber Band Ligation. A small rubber band is placed over the hemorrhoid to cut off its blood supply. The hemorrhoid withers away within a few days.
- Sclerotherapy. This procedure involves the injection of a chemical solution around the blood vessel to shrink the hemorrhoid.
- Infrared Coagulation. A special device is used to burn hemorrhoidal tissue.
