Preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
To reduce the risk of this painful condition, ensure that you have a correct posture. Use your whole hand and all of your fingers when you grip an object. When typing on the keyboard, your wrists and hands should be straight and your forearms parallel to the floor. Avoid bending your wrists when typing. You may also consider getting a wrist rest pad to provide additional support. Adjust your computer screen so that it is about 60 centimeters away from you and just below your line of sight.
Take a break from handwork for a few minutes every hour for some stretching hand exercises or simple shaking movements. If your occupation puts you at risk for carpal tunnel syndrome, avoid leisure actitivities that involve anymore repetitive movements of your hands and wrists, such as knitting.
