Energy sapper #5:
Your vitamin C shortage
Many women don't get enough vitamin C, and too-low levels can leave you feeling sapped. The reason: Vitamin C helps produce carnitine, a compound that transports fatty acids into cells so they can be metabolized for energy. When the body lacks carnitine, carbs and proteins get broken down for energy instead and this produces the by-product lactic acid which builds up in tissue and fatigues muscles.Energy fix: Aim to get the recommended daily intake of 75mg of vitamin C by consuming more fruits and veggies. Rich sources include oranges, kiwi, strawberries and broccoli.
